Diagnosed with a rotator cuff injury?

You probably injured it lifting, having your shoulder jerked or perhaps a dislocation, and now you’re sufferimg not only with the discomfort and pain of the injury, but also an unstable and weak shoulder.

The good news is that for partial tears, there is great success at recovery from physiotherapy, and for larger tears, a co-ordinated approach with a surgeon and physio can have you back to full health. We can help diagnose and organise either of these treatments for you.

How we can help you.

If you have injured your rotator cuff, our experienced team can see you promptly (we can generally see patients within 24 hours), diagnose your injury and set in place a rehabilitation programme. The shoulder is a complex joint and due to the nature of it, can be injured in many ways. As such, there are a range of treatments we can use depending on what is wrong. Getting an accurate diagnosis first up is important, otherwise you can waste a lot of time.

If you have a rotator cuff injury, you may also qualify to be placed on the Careway Programme that offers fully funded treatment by ACC and importantly all at no cost to you.

Co-ordinated care just for you

Should you need more than just physiotherapy, we will co-ordinate the care you require. We work closely with our partners we share clinics with (Axis Sports Medicine, UniSports Orthopaedics and Auckland Radiology, to bring together a co-ordinated treatment package for you.

What is Careway?

It provides injured New Zealanders with better and faster access to great healthcare services. All with the aim of getting you injury free. Careway is a fully funded programme from ACC, which means no cost for your physiotherapy or if you need it, consultations with a Sport and Exercise Physician or Orthopaedic Surgeon, or any radiology scans (like x-rays or MRIs).

In your first consultation with your physiotherapist, you will be assessed to see if your injury qualifies. If it does, a dedicated team will work with you to set goals and to design a care plan that meets your needs. That may just involve physiotherapy or include assessments and treatment from other specialists. You will remain under the care of Careway until you have recovered.

Do I qualify?

All patients must first be diagnosed and assessed before being placed on to the Careway pathway. Generally speaking however, if you have suffered a dislocated shoulder, you have a good chance of qualifying.

You can book in to see our physiotherapists directly (i.e. without a referral from your general practitioner) for both private and ACC related injuries.
