Orthopaedics

The Orthopaedic team consists of four consultants who completed their medical training in New Zealand and then embarked on a further 6-8 years to complete their orthopaedic specialty training. Each is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and they have undertaken extensive postgraduate training at international centres of excellence. In addition to the consultants, the team also has two orthopaedic fellows, who are recently qualified orthopaedic consultants furthering their interest in the area of Sports Medicine.

The Orthopaedic Consultant will be able to offer a comprehensive clinical program for the treatment of acute and chronic injuries to tendons, bones and joints caused by participation in sports or exercise. Depending on the injury, it may be managed in a conservative manner or require surgery. If an operation is needed then your adidas Sports Medicine orthopaedic consultant will be able to carry out the procedure at one of the four hospitals in Auckland which are utilised by our clinic.

Our Orthopaedic Consultants are highly specialised and at the forefront in the diagnosis and treatment of knee, ankle and shoulder injuries. Their areas of expertise include:

• arthroscopic surgery


• meniscal / cartilage surgery


• ligament reconstruction surgery, especially anterior cruciate ligament


• shoulder reconstruction surgery


• rotator cuff repair


• tendon surgery and reconstruction

A referral from a sports physician or general practitioner is needed before an appointment with the orthopaedic consultant can be made.
