Sports Medicine
Our medical team has three Sports Physicians, who are specialists of the Australasian College of Sports Physicians, and a registrar - an advanced trainee of the College. The Australasian College of Sports Physicians is a world recognised body for the development of the specialty of sports medicine. With only 14 Sports Physicians in New Zealand, adidas Sports Medicine has the highest number of these dedicated professionals in one clinic.
The Sports Physician usually becomes the first point of contact in our clinic when you have a sports related injury. The Physician will be able to diagnose your injury, explain the treatment options available to you and manage your rehabilitation phase. In some cases they will need to refer you on to another department in the adidas Sports Medicine clinic such as physiotherapy, orthopaedics, nutrition, podiatry, or massage therapy.
The range of sports medicine services includes both sport injury diagnosis, especially relating to the knee, foot/ankle, shoulder and elbow as well as management of many medical conditions that may affect your sporting ability eg asthma, diabetes, or cardiac problems.
Usually, you will have been to your own general practitioner or physiotherapist for your injury, and then have a referral to our Sports Physicians. Depending on the injury, an ACC form may have been filled out and you can bring this with you to the clinic, so that the consultation fee is at a reduced rate.
If you do not have a referral then you may see our Sports Doctor Registrar, for either an ACC injury or a non accident related injury.
